Malawi has reached a significant milestone in the Mozambique-Malawi (MOMA) 400kV Electricity Interconnector project, following the successful energisation of the transmission line.
The 400kV line connects Matambo Substation in Mozambique to Phombeya Substation in Malawi, bringing the country closer to full integration into the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP).
Minister of Energy, Dr Jean Mathanga, says final arrangements, including tariff processes, are currently being completed before commercial electricity trading can begin.
The project is expected to strengthen Malawi’s access to reliable electricity and enhance regional power trading.
