The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appointed Bob Mpinganjira as Head Coach of the Malawi Under-23 National Team.

Mpinganjira will take charge of the team during the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa U23 Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted by Egypt.

Malawi will face Eswatini in the first round, with the winner advancing to the next round where they will meet Algeria.

The qualification campaign is scheduled to run from September 2026 to March 2027.

The appointment comes just hours after Mpinganjira was suspended by Mighty Wanderers following the club's 2-1 defeat to Ekhaya FC in the Airtel Top 8 final at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday.

Mpinganjira had been in charge of the Nomads guided the team to 2025 Super League champions before the club announced his suspension following their defeat in the final.

Bob will lead the young Flames in their bid to qualify for the 2027 continental tournament.
