LILONGWE — Malaria remains one of the major health challenges facing communities in Malawi, with continued efforts needed to prevent its spread.
The call comes as Malawi joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Mosquito Day, observed annually on August 20.
Speaking to Millennium Online on Thursday, National Coordinator for the National Malaria Control Programme, Lumbani Munthali, urged communities to take an active role in preventing malaria by keeping their surroundings clean and eliminating mosquito breeding sites.
The community participation is critical in reducing mosquito populations and preventing malaria transmission. He explains.
He also highlighted government interventions, including the distribution of mosquito nets and indoor residual spraying with insecticides as part of efforts to control mosquitoes and reduce malaria infections.
