The 2025/26 runners-up Ascent Soccer Academy came from behind to salvage a point at Mpira Stadium against Mighty Wanderers Queens on Thursday afternoon.

The matchday 3 fixture was played under cloudy fog due to bad weather engulfing the city of Blantyre.

The home side took an early lead in the 3rd minute through Esther January, before Tawina Kawiga scored a brace in the 13th and 23rd minutes, respectively.

The visitors reduced the deficit before half-time in the 36th minute of the game when Funny Moyo scored an own goal.

In the second half, two errors from the Nomads' defense cost them dearly. Ascent Soccer Academy capitalized on the Nomads' mistakes to make it 3-2 in the 53rd minute through Leticia Chinyamula, who received the ball from Mayamiko Mkandawire and fired it into the top left corner.

The Nomads did not capitalize on their one-goal advantage, failing to control the game as their back four were left shaken.

In the last quarter of an hour, the visitors found breathing room as Leticia Chinyamula scored her second goal of the game to level the score.

Ascent Soccer came close to grabbing all three points in the dying minutes, missing perfect goal-scoring opportunities through Alepher Chimbeta and Mayamiko Mkandawire.

The home side managed to escape defeat until the final whistle to share the spoils in a six-goal thriller.

The runners-up remain unbeaten this season after securing 5 points from 3 games (2 draws and 1 win), sitting in 3rd position.

Meanwhile, Mighty Wanderers Queens have moved from 6th to 4th place, displacing MDF Lionesses on goal difference.

In another fixture on Thursday, Ntopwa Super Queens registered their first win of the season following a 1-0 win against Rumphi Sisters at Rumphi Stadium.

After back-to-back home defeats in their opening two matches, Ntopwa Super Queens faced another struggling side, Rumphi Sisters - both teams had been without a point before kick-off.

A 29th-minute penalty from Kondawo Banda was enough to guide the Blantyre giants to their first points of the season.

Following the result, Ntopwa have moved from 8th to 7th place in the league standings after three games.

Rumphi Sisters remain at the bottom with zero points from three matches.

Matchday 3 continues on Saturday as Chitoliro host Civil Service Women at Mpira Stadium to wrap up the match week 3.
